Battery conversion

The challenge

A TechWay impact wrench was tied to its own batteries, harder to find than those of more widespread brands. The user already had Worx and Dexter batteries at home, but none of them fitted the tool.

The constraints

The tool could not be modified internally. The adapter had to fit in the original battery bay, reproduce the exact fit of two different systems —Worx and Dexter— and not shift the centre of gravity, or the wrench would no longer handle the same.

The solution

An adapter that screws in where the TechWay battery would go. The body follows the base of the tool and the upper part reproduces the fit of the Worx and Dexter batteries. Inside, seats for spade terminals aligned with the contacts, wired to the original power supply.

How it is built

The body of the adapter follows the shape of the base of the tool for a firm fit, and the upper part reproduces the exact fit of the Worx and Dexter batteries, guaranteeing a secure coupling with no play. Inside, room is provided for spade terminals, aligned with the battery contacts and joined by cables soldered to the original power supply of the wrench.

Integration into the tool

By screwing into the area where the TechWay battery would originally go, the assembly keeps the centre of gravity and the ergonomics of the wrench. Changing the battery is still quick and the tool is not modified internally.
