Pool cleaner restoration

Equipment recovered without replacing the structure: new pins, and side panels treated against solar radiation.

The challenge

A pool cleaner had broken pins and its side panels —the ones carrying the wheels and the brush— damaged by the sun. Replacing the whole unit over a few plastic parts was out of proportion.

The constraints

The parts work submerged and outdoors, so the material had to withstand solar radiation without turning brittle over the years.

The solution

The pins were reproduced identical to the originals to guarantee the fit. The side panels were earmarked for replacement too, but after inspecting them we chose to recover them instead: a full sanding and a treatment specific to plastics exposed to the sun. Printing what was needed and keeping what still worked.
